Character Information
Name: Emil
Canon: NieR
Canon Point: Moments before Emil finds himself consumed by No. 6.
Age: Looks around 13 years old, on the small side. (He's 4'7!) In actuality he's at least 1,300+ years old, give or take.
History: Here

Personality:

If one were to look at Emil at face value, what they would be greeted with is the appearance of a rather petite rich boy with bandaged eyes. Dainty, delicate looking and small, Emil appears utterly untouched, as if he's been waited on hand and foot his entire life. In a way, this is partially true, but not because he's a spoiled child. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, there's far more to Emil than just the bandages and fancy clothes he's dressed in.

Before he was dressed in fine fabrics, Emil was a normal human boy, although a rather unfortunate one. Finding himself at the mercy of scientists Emil became a test subject along with his older sister. Turned into a weapon he was cursed with the ability to petrify anything he gazed upon. Kept in storage Emil spent an indeterminate amount of time contained and kept away, lest he be needed to destroy what his sister, No. 6 had become.

There isn't much that Emil remembers about his past. How he came from being kept in containment and into living the role of the owner of the manor that was erected atop the test facility is a blur. What he does remember is that Sebastian, his servant, has been serving him loyally for years and that for as long as he remains cursed, he'll never take off the blindfold he's dutifully tied over his eyes. The amount of time Emil has spent living in the manor alone save for his servant is unknown. He's nowhere near as young as he looks - in actuality he's over 1000 years old. However, he hasn't matured mentally or emotionally and is still, at heart, a relatively innocent child.

What one comes to notice immediately after meeting Emil is that he's...strange, but that isn't all surprising. Living in isolation will turn anyone a little weird and Emil is no exception. It's obvious that he's been lonely living in the manor nearly all by himself, searching for a cure for his eyes and this is apparent when he meets Nier, Weiss and Kaine. Emil is quick to trust, desperate to help and utterly friendly, offering to show Nier around his manor without second thoughts of who these visitors might be. He has no qualms either about handing the master key of the manor over to Nier when his offer is rejected.

He's a pleasant child, one who wishes to please and simply be liked for who he is without having other be frightened of him. For years and years Emil lived his life hating himself for his cursed eyes, filled with guilt and fear of hurting anyone around him that he could become close to. It was only after Kaine, someone he quickly found himself adoring like an older sister, told him his eyes were a gift, not a curse, that he found himself gaining an ounce of lost self confidence.

It doesn't take long for Emil to become attached to someone either. Rather quickly he came to find himself considering Weiss, Kaine and Nier his friends, and it didn't take long for him to risk his life for them either, running blind from his manor into the village to warn Nier and the inhabitants of the oncoming Shades that were going to attack. He even goes so far as to fight along side Nier, Weiss and Kaine, using his eyes to petrify Shades.

When Emil comes to care for someone, which doesn't take much to begin with, he becomes foolishly devoted to them. Friendship is more important to Emil than anything else, especially his own life, and when he's forced to petrify Kaine against a door to trap a giant Shade away he has to be essentially threatened into it. Crying, and utterly distraught, Emil gives in, taking off his blindfold and gazing upon her to turn her and the door into stone. For the next five years of his life after returning to his manor, Emil spends his time not only devoted to trying to find a cure for his eyes, but to finding a means of freeing Kaine from her stony fate. Nier, too, is someone that Emil comes quickly to regard with affection, and it doesn't take the boy long to develop an innocent crush on the man, regarding him as someone who is, in essence, not only his friend but really damn cool.

Perhaps the most striking part of Emil's personality, that ends up endearing him to those who get to know him, is his unwavering idealism and optimistic outlook. No matter the circumstances he'll put a positive spin on things. People who others would see as rough around the edges or would be otherwise rejected by society are, in Emil's opinion, cool or kind. It's because of his lack of sight that he's able to look past (hah) what others would see upon meeting someone, and more or less bypass awkward first impressions. A person's personality and what's in their heart, not their appearance or past, is what's most important to Emil. Some might think he's a terrible judge of character, but to his credit there's something about him that has the rough and foulmouthed Kaine, long suffering Nier and cagey magic book Grimoire Weiss all adoring him.

Despite his unfortunate past and majorly lonesome existence, Emil is chipper and upbeat, taking even the hard times in stride. He smiles often, chuckles at his companions and is unbearably fond of making rather awful puns. He loves too much, perhaps, and with too much of himself. As long as he can make others happy and in turn be loved and appreciated, there's nothing more he could want. To be accepted, truly, is his ultimate wish after all.

Abilities & Skills:

Once a normal human boy, Emil essentially became a human experiment in magic made into a weapon. He was then to be contained in storage if the need to contain or destroy his sister, also a fellow test subject, ever arose. Due to this, Emil is cursed with the ability to petrify anything he sets his eyes on and as such, out of an overwhelming sense of guilt he wears a blindfold over his eyes constantly, leaving him to live more or less as a blind person would.

In addition to his curse, over years of living without his sight, Emil has honed his other senses to be extremely fine tuned. His hearing is very sensitive and he's figured out how to judge the gender, age and height of a person just by listening to their footsteps. He has a keen ear for music, being able to play the piano by ear and is able to make his way around his manor rather competently.

He's also possession of a six sense of sorts, able to detect the presence of Shades, volatile enemies one has to fight throughout the game and seems to be able to sense magic to a degree, suffering headaches and becoming affected by No. 6's sheer power when he was drawing close to her containment chamber.

Also, due to the results of his testing, Emil is no longer human. He will never age or grow, even though his body is still susceptible to illness, damage and he is more than able to die.

Inventory/Companions:

Nothing other than his clothes.

Choice: Witch.
Reason:

Emil was created to be a weapon that could defeat the perfect, magical weapon: his sister. After being consumed by her in canon he ends up losing his human form but in return becomes an incredibly powerful magical being. I think it would be interesting for Emil to actually be able to learn magic on his own terms, especially since he's spent centuries looking for a cure to the curse his eyes hold.
